Prima celebrates National Apprenticeship Week 2020
Prima Cheese were pleased to support Sunderland College at their City and Bede campus to help celebrate the 13th Annual National Apprenticeship Week (#NAW2020) which took place last week from 3rd to 7th February 2020.
Attending the event and flying the Prima flag with pride were Andy, Stephen, Michael, David and John. Together they have a wealth of experience and years of service at Prima Cheese.
They were on hand to offer the many students of various schools from around the North-East their own insight into why choosing an apprenticeship at Prima Cheese is a great way to kick start their career.
Jake Baillie (Business Executive at Sunderland College) said “Sunderland College have worked in partnership with Prima Cheese for just over one year, within that year Prima have been excellent advocates of apprenticeships for both existing staff, and new apprentices joining the business. Prima were a natural choice to support our national apprenticeship week events, giving advice and guidance to students and school leavers considering apprenticeships as their next step. The attendees were all very impressed with the company, as well as a range of opportunities within a family ran business. We are already starting to receive interest from attendees for a current apprenticeship with Prima, which is testament to the business, and the staff who attended.”
Our Goal….
Here at Prima Cheese Ltd we think Apprentices are very important for any successful business. We currently have four apprentices in departments such as Engineering, IT, Finance and Marketing.

Our goal at Prima Cheese is to train up more apprentices in the near future and help to create successful individuals who are highly skilled in their chosen departments.
Here is what our staff had to say about the event.
“Giving opportunities to Apprentices can only be a positive thing for Prima Cheese. It promotes the business as well as encouraging young people to get into work, and for them to learn to deal with real time issues to help them develop as individuals.”
– Steven
“I think it’s a good opportunity for young people to experience work life and to help guide them on what career path they might want to take. I never really knew what I wanted to do when I was at that age, so the chance to come in and see what different jobs are like can help the younger generation make a more informed decision on what they want to do in their own future.”
– Michael
“Apprentices are a blank canvas – you mold them, and they eventually become a work of art!”
– John
“Apprenticeships give the young person a practical approach to the job. It can give you a foot in the door of a business and earn while you learn!”
– David
Andy, who works in Human Resources at Prima said “It was great that our Managers took part in the Apprenticeship week at Sunderland College. They really interacted with the students and gave a good insight into our company, and the opportunities we offer here. Apprenticeships give you a fantastic experience in working in real life situations and is a good way of showing the employer what potential you have. By doing hands on training it really gives someone the chance to put their skills into practice and helps them gain more confidence in a working environment. There is also a qualification at the end of the Apprenticeship, which is great to put on your CV”.
