Meet the Family RETURNS! with a special edition…
Earlier in the year we brought you a series of Meet the Family. It proved so popular it has returned with a special edition where we chat to Prima’s apprentice’s and student placement staff.
.
To kick start our first Special Meet the Family series. Say hello to James…. Our newest apprentice who has recently joined our Marketing team on a 2-year apprenticeship. We had a chat with James to see how his first 6 weeks with Prima have been and how Prima are going to help him over the next 2 years.
.
Hi James, you recently started your 2-year apprenticeship with Prima, how are you settling in at Prima?
I have settled in fairly quick; it is a big difference to being in a classroom. It helps that everyone here is nice and friendly.
You have joined Prima during a strange time (Covid-19) how has that been for you?
By the time I started with Prima, there had already been restrictions put in place and this helps everyone feel more comfortable during the current pandemic. I think that’s really important.
Can you tell us a bit more about your apprenticeship and how Prima are assisting you?
I was supposed to be doing a finance apprenticeship with Prima, but the position was not needed anymore due to COVID, so Prima gave me more options, that’s why I am now in marketing. It is helping me to enhance my skills with the software used and helping to improve myself as a person.
You mention that you were keen on Finance but find yourself in Marketing, two very different departments and disciplines, what attracted you to Marketing?
I’ve had this question a lot. I liked both finance and marketing when I was at college as I studied business so there was a lot involved in some of the units. Marketing allows you to be free with yourself and you can help be a part of a creative team that help push the business and their products.
Before starting your apprenticeship, what did you know about Prima?
I didn’t know much to be honest, I first heard about Prima when I met some of the team during an apprenticeship event at college during National Apprenticeship Week. It’s because of the guys I met there that I am where I am now.
Who did you meet during National Apprenticeship Week and how did that play a part in your decisions for your future?
At the apprenticeship event I met John, Michael, Andy, and David. I think I asked them more questions than they asked me, I was just curious at the time about what their role was within the organisation. When I met the guys, it helped me get a feel of what Prima were like and how they operated so I think that was one of the leading factors for choosing this apprenticeship over another offer that I had.
Tell us a little about yourself, outside of work! What hobbies do you have or end up doing on your weekends?
I play football every Monday with my mates. On a weekend I’m either helping family or playing FIFA.
Who do you support, a local North-East team we hope…?
Yes, of course. I’m not a glory supporter. I support SUNDERLAND! Which has been tough in recent years…
Lastly, as we are a cheese company, do you have a favourite cheese?
My favourite cheese has to be mozzarella.
What would be your favourite recipe/dish to use your favourite cheese on?
My sister makes a mean pasta bake, but I think my pasta is better – both feature cheese of course.

Thank you James for chatting with us and being apart of our special edition of Meet the Family. We are looking forward to you becoming part of the Prima family on your 2 year-long apprenticeship.
