Transporting truckloads of cheese
This month our Team Spotlight is shining on our awesome Transport Team!
Transport is headed up by our Transport Manager John and makes up a team of 14 who are responsible for ensuring all UK orders are sent from our warehouse to our customer’s front door.
Our Transport Supervisor, Martin (Pictured left), and Transport Coordinator, Kieron (Pictured right), work day-to-day at our office in Seaham to ensure that all orders are scheduled for delivery and communicated to our customers, routes are planned and any issues such as delays are communicated through our UK Customer Care team.
Transport manages and oversees a total of 11 trucks departing our warehouse to deliver pallets of cheese to customers based as far as Plymouth and across the south coast of the UK!
Planning is the most essential part of making this team run efficiently. There are many factors needed to be considered when planning deliveries including customer opening times, routes, and how much time is spent on the road. Without our team taking these factors into consideration, our drivers could be delayed on their route and it may lead to a stop over. The government regulates driving time and working hours per day, so when planning multiple deliveries, these factors are important so we can make sure that drivers are on the right route, on time and can return to Prima HQ without needing to take an unnecessary overnight stay.
Due to daily driving and working hour limits, when traveling to the likes of Plymouth and the south coast, drivers will need to stop over to rest which means days away from home and family. It’s not as simple as driving and delivering – it can be quite a demanding role!
It doesn’t stop at just scheduling and delivering, either. To ensure that our transport operation is smooth from start to finish, the team works very closely with traffic report systems so that in the case of a road incident, this can be identified quick enough in order to divert our drivers to their location without spending unwanted time in traffic jams and can deliver customer orders on schedule.
Transport is a huge operation here at Prima as the last point of contact for our customers and without this team, Prima would have to use a much less reliable option of external transport.
Our factory produces a HUGE amount of cheese per week, 600 tonnes to be precise, so managing a robust delivery system for our orders ensures that millions of pizzas can be topped each week. Here’s to our Transport team for their endless hard work in running our delivery operation!
