From books to business
From books to business… congratulations to Flynn Kelsey who has been promoted to our Raw Materials Coordinator!
Flynn originally joined us on a work placement whilst completing his Business Management degree, once completing his placement, Flynn was offered the opportunity to stay with us part-time as a Production Operative. Fast forward 2 years, he’s now with us full time as our Raw Materials Coordinator!
Flynn joined Prima Cheese in 2020 as an Operations Placement student whilst completing a sandwich year during his Business Management degree. During his placement, Flynn was responsible for collaborating on a number of projects in our Quality Assurance department and Production department, learning about how they operate from the inside out. Flynn said, “I have been able to network with all types of departments and people, allowing my confidence to grow significantly and become comfortable with those around me, from the shop floor to the offices.”
After completing his sandwich year, we offered Flynn the opportunity to work with us part-time in our Production department whilst completing his degree. This is where he really got to put his knowledge of production to the test! Flynn commented, “After choosing to stay on part-time in production throughout completing my final year at university, my foot was still in the door at Prima. Luckily, Nima and Alex offered me the opportunity to remain at the company.”
Flynn completed his degree in 2022 and was approached by our Production Manager, Alex Smith and Operations Director, Nima Beni to join Prima full-time as a Raw Materials Coordinator. From the get-go, Flynn has demonstrated how dedicated and hardworking he is towards his career with Prima Cheese. With his knowledge gained from working across our departments and his experience in Production, we knew he would be suitable and capable of fulfilling the role. Flynn commented, “Throughout my time at Prima all members of staff have helped and supported me when needed. I have been offered training in advance of this role to help me hit the ground running.”
We asked Flynn a few questions about his experience so far with Prima Cheese:
How have Prima invested and supported you into this role?
I have undergone thorough training for this role and I am offered continuous support from Dennis and Nima. There has been sufficient planning, involving the use of training packs surrounding each different aspect and tasks I will face when taking on the new role.
Name something that you’ve worked towards that you’re proud of
I am extremely proud of managing to maintain my working relations/status whilst completing my degree. It has been very difficult and challenging to complete my degree whilst maintaining a job, however without keeping my foot in the door at Prima during my final year at university, I believe I would not have had the opportunity to venture into this new role.
What’s your favourite thing about working for Prima?
The people. Everyone here is extremely helpful and fun to be around. The other members of staff always manage to put a smile on your face and offer help and advice whenever it is needed.
Advice for future Prima staff members?
As mentioned, all the staff are so outgoing and helpful meaning new members are always welcomed. Never be afraid of the environment or be scared to ask for something when needed as everyone will be sure to help! 😊
Congratulations Flynn – it just goes to show what you can achieve with hard work and dedication!
